A Legionella risk assessment only reduces risk once its recommendations are carried out. Remedial works deal with the physical causes of Legionella risk in your water systems, such as stagnant pipework, unsuitable storage, poor temperature control and failing components. Stravica delivers remedial works that close out your risk assessment actions properly, to the right standards and with full records.

Dead legs and little-used outlets are among the most common causes of Legionella growth, because water stands still in them. We remove redundant pipework back to the live circulation, so that no stagnant section remains. Where an outlet is no longer needed, it is removed completely rather than capped. This removes the risk permanently and ends the need for weekly flushing, saving time and water.

Tanks that are damaged, poorly covered or too large for the building's needs create ongoing risk. We fit tight-fitting lids, insect screens and correctly screened overflows and vents, and improve tank insulation. Where storage is oversized, we can reduce capacity to improve water turnover. Where a tank is beyond repair, we replace it with a compliant, WRAS-approved unit.

When hot water is not hot enough, or cold water is too warm, Legionella can grow. We identify the cause and put it right, for example:

Thermostatic mixing valves protect people from scalding but need careful management to avoid creating Legionella risk. We service, repair and replace TMVs, and position them as close as practicable to outlets. We also replace worn or unsuitable outlets, shower heads and hoses, including flexible hoses that can support bacterial growth, with compliant, easy-to-clean fittings.

All remedial works comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, or the Scottish Byelaws, and use WRAS-approved or equivalent materials. Works that count as construction are planned and managed under CDM 2015. Isolations are carried out under permit, hot works are controlled, and asbestos registers are checked before any work starts.

New or modified pipework can introduce contamination. After remedial works, systems are flushed and, where pipework has been installed or opened, disinfected before being returned to use. Temperatures are checked before handover and, where specified, verification samples are taken. Water is restored to occupants only once the system is confirmed as safe.

Every remedial recommendation is quoted separately and clearly, so you can see exactly what is proposed and why. You are always free to choose any competent contractor for remedial works. Our quotations are based on the evidence from your risk assessment, with priorities clearly identified, so that your budget goes first to the work that reduces risk the most.

Each completed remedial is recorded against the original risk assessment recommendation, with photographs and as-fitted details. This allows your action plan to be closed out, your asset register and schematic to be updated, and your risk assessment to be reviewed where needed. You end up with a complete, auditable record of how each risk was identified, addressed and resolved.

Remedial works are delivered by qualified plumbing and water hygiene engineers with Water Regulations training, working for vetted specialist organisations, and managed and quality-assured by Stravica. You get one point of contact, compliant work and complete records.
