Legionella & Water Hygiene Management Policy

Safe Water Systems For Everyone Who Uses Your Buildings

Stravica is committed to helping clients control the risk from Legionella and other water-borne pathogens, and to protecting the residents, patients, pupils and staff who rely on their water systems every day.

Our Commitment

We deliver every water hygiene service in line with HSE's Approved Code of Practice L8, HSG274, the relevant British Standards and, in healthcare, HTM 04-01. Our services are evidence-led and transparent, and we remain fully accountable for every task delivered under our contracts.

What This Means In Practice

  • Risk-based assessment: Legionella risk assessments carried out to BS 8580-1, with prioritised, evidence-based recommendations.
  • Accurate monitoring: Temperatures and checks recorded as found, using calibrated equipment and time-stamped digital records.
  • Trusted sampling: Samples taken to BS 7592 and analysed by UKAS-accredited laboratories.
  • Immediate escalation: Significant risks reported the same day, and adverse results notified within set timescales.
  • Honest reporting: Every result reported exactly as received, never delayed or withheld.
  • Competent people: Services delivered by Legionella Control Association member organisations, using vetted and verified operatives.

Who This Policy Applies To

Stravica directors and staff, delivery partners and their operatives, laboratories, and everyone involved in delivering water hygiene services on Stravica contracts, across England, Scotland and Wales.

Supporting Your Legal Duties

As Duty Holder, you hold legal responsibility for managing Legionella risk. We confirm your Duty Holder and Responsible Person arrangements at the start of every contract, explain your obligations clearly, and provide the records and reports you need to demonstrate compliance.

Protecting People At Higher Risk

Our assessments and programmes take full account of who uses your building. Healthcare premises, care homes, sheltered housing and other settings with vulnerable occupants receive enhanced monitoring, sampling and escalation, in line with their risk.

Outbreak Support

If a case of Legionnaires' disease is linked to your premises, we support you and the investigating authorities fully. We provide records promptly, carry out investigative sampling, and never disinfect or alter systems without the authorities' agreement.

Assurance And Continual Improvement

We carry out monthly performance reviews, data integrity checks, unannounced spot checks and technical reviews of risk assessments. This policy is reviewed annually and whenever HSE guidance or British Standards change.
